PLAST4FUTURE - Injection moulding production technology for multi-functional nano-structured plastic components enabled by Nano Imprint Lithography

Work packages

Specifications, design and lab-scale prototyping (WP2): Establish a searchable catalogue of micro- and nano-patterned surfaces according to their design, functionality and manufacturability, based on design, modelling and lab-scale prototyping.

Nanostructuring of Moulding Tools (WP3): Development of complete lithography and pattern transfer solution for the making of durable nano-structures on free-form surfaces on injection moulding steel tools. The solution consists of a system and a set of operational procedures to use the system.

Manufacturing of Moulding Tools (WP4): Establish the manufacturing chain for moulding tools and inserts with surface properties suitable for nano-structuring.

Life cycle Assessment (WP5): Analysis of the PLAST4FUTURE Cradle-to-Cradle value chain. Development of method for raw material traceability to support material recycling in a Cradle-to-Cradle production value chain. Development of standards for cradle-to-cradle handling of raw material.

 

 

The following technology demonstrations are included:
 

  • Pilot Implementation of Moulding Tool (WP6): Assessment of the up-scaling potential of the PLAST4FUTURE technologies for the production of multifunctional surfaces for selected applications (automotive, general lighting and toys) as coloured surfaces, antireflective transparent plastic, prismatic elements for light control, easy-to-clean and anti-fog optics on 2D and 3D shapes.
  • Technology demonstration 1: Self-cleaning on planar surface (WP6): Demonstrate the injection moulding technology of plastic parts with planar, self-cleaning surfaces.
  • Technology demonstration 2: Optical effect on planar surface (WP6): Demonstrate the injection moulding technology of plastic parts with optical effects on planar surfaces.
  • Technology demonstration 3: Self-cleaning on curved surface (WP6): Demonstrate the injection moulding technology of plastic parts with curved, self-cleaning surfaces.
  • Technology demonstration 4: Optical elements on curved surface (WP6): Demonstrate the injection moulding technology of plastic parts with optical effects on curved surfaces.
  • Pilot implementation in production line 1: Interiors optical surfaces in automotive applications (WP6): Demonstrate the up-scaling potential of the PLAST4FUTURE manufacturing chain for the production of anti-reflexion dashboard for cars (WP6)
  • Pilot implementation in production line 2: Lightguide LEDs system (WP6): Demonstrate the up-scaling potential of the PLAST4FUTURE manufacturing chain for the production of lightguide LED system for automotive, general lighting and toys.
  • Pilot implementation in production line 3: Colour effects on toys (WP6): Demonstration of the up-scaling potential of the PLAST4FUTURE manufacturing chain for the production of colour effect on LEGO toys (with potential application also in automotive).
